The state government has given the green signal for monorail project in the twin city Hubli-Dharwad. The decision was taken at a meeting held at the chief minister’s official residence Krishna on Friday.

Monorail is more cost effective than metro rail. The Centre’s Engineering Projects India managing director SPS Bhakshi and executive director VG Suresh Kumar presented a documentary on the monorail project.

The team will visit Hubli-Dharwad and submit a final proposal in one month, Hubli-Dharwad urban development authority president Lingaraj Patil said.

The central team put the expenditure at Rs135 crore per kilometre of the 50km railway line. The state government will have to provide the land for the project while the central government will take care of the expenditure.
