The much-delayed Ahmedabad-Mumbai AC double-decker train is all set to make its maiden journey from Ahmedabad on September 19. The train will leave Ahmedabad at 6 am and reach Mumbai at 1 pm.

Similarly, it will depart from Mumbai on Thursday at 2.20 pm and reach Ahmedabad at 9.40 pm. “The inauguration was awaited since July but due to some unexplained reasons, the date was being pushed. But finally, it is starting from Wednesday,” said a railway official.

Ahmedabad Railway Divisional Manager Rakesh Behal said that Minister of State for Railways Bharatsinh Solanki will flag off the train from Ahmedabad on Wednesday around 4 pm. “The regular services will commence from Friday,” he said.

The train that will run six days a week has nine coaches, including seven AC double-decker chair cars with 128 seats each. Manufactured at the Kapurthala Coach Factory in Punjab, each double-decker coach is equipped with automatic doors, eight emergency windows and fire extinguishers near its door.

“The coaches have been designed keeping both safety and passenger comfort in mind. Also, each coach will have a mini-pantry, which includes a fridge and microwave,” said the official.

The coaches will also have LCDs not just for entertainment but to show advertisements and generate revenue for railways. “We have also proposed to showcase the culture of Gujarat and Maharashtra on the screens. We are trying to provide best services to make the jaunt a pleasant experience for the passengers,” said Behal.

Currently, the officials are in the process of finalising snacks and cuisines to tickle the travellers’ taste buds.
