Title - Record breaking number of coaches manufactured by ICF in a year

Integral Coach Factory (ICF) of Chennai has made a new record by producing 2503 coaches in one financial year. In Year 2017 - 18 ICF also surpassed the target of 2464 coaches set by Indian Railways. Out of the total produced coaches, 73 percent were stainless steel coaches.

In a press release, ICF officials told that the product mix consists of diesel-electric multiple units (DEMU) for Jammu and Kashmir, EMU for Mumbai as well as for Chennai, Kolkata Metro, Vistadome tourist coaches for IRCTC. Also there are some coaches specifically manufactured for Military Langer etc.

ICF has almost tripled the production of LHB coaches which will help Railway's safety push to a great extent. LHB coaches are much safer than traditional coaches in case of an accident. The number of LHB coaches has surpassed to 1,100 in 2017-18 from 400 in 2016-17.

Besides all these coaches, ICF is also working on Make - In - India Train - 18 and train - 20. Train-18 will be semi high speed self propelled train capable of running at 160kmph with 16 coaches. The national transporter had the capacity to manufacture 4,000 LHB coaches each year. It would take around 5 years to replace all ICF coaches with LHB coaches
