The long-pending proposal for a new railway line between Bhadrachalam Road and Sattupalli is likely to take the concrete shape soon with the management of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) releasing the requisite funds towards conducting the final location survey for the new line.

According to the SCCL sources, company chairman and managing director Sutirtha Bhattacharya handed over a cheque for Rs. 6.38 crore to the South Central Railway (SCR) authorities concerned in Secunderabad on Monday. The move gained prominence as the proposed new line is expected to facilitate smooth transportation of coal from the SCCL’s coalmines situated in Sattupalli division. The new railway line (56.25 kms) was sanctioned by the Railways in 2010-11 at an estimated cost of Rs. 337.50 crore, sources said.
