Kozhikode: As part of electrification of railway lines from Shoranur to Mangalore, work between Kozhikode to Karakkad would be completed within 6 months. Railway Electrification Section deputy chief engineer AK Mohan said by March 2013, electrification work till Feroke would be completed.

Though work from Kozhikode to Kannur is slated for completion by May, it wouldn't be commissioned as the height of the first railway overbridge near Kozhikdoe railway station needs to be raised. So when work on the overbridge is complete, then the commissioning of the whole line would take place.

The electrification between Kannur to Mangalore have already begun. Rs 295 crore has been set aside for primary level works. But at the same time, doubling of rail line from Shoranur to Karakkad is still not complete. Only after the doubling works is completed, electrification work too will be completed. It is learnt that doubling will be completed by December 2012, which will pay way for electrification.
