Torrential rain continued to lash hilly districts of Karnataka in Western Ghats section bringing copious inflows into several rivers while two persons were killed when a cement-loaded mini truck fell into Malati River in Shimoga. Official sources said that normal life was disrupted due to heavy rains in Shimoga, Kodagu and Chikmagalur while landslides in Hassan-Sakaleshpur-Mangalore have thrown traffic out of gear. Vehicular movement was badly affected on NH 13 in Chikmagalur.

Train services between Bangalore and Mangalore was suspended since yesterday evening as huge land slides were reported near Yedakumeri in Sakleshpur taluk of Hassan Districts.

Huge boulders had rolled over the tracks and teams of workers have begun work on clearing the track, South Western Railway sources said. Police said driver and cleaner of the cement-laden truck were killed when the farmer tried to take the vehicle on a overflowing bridge near Thirthahalli in Shimoga.

The bodies have been recovered from the waters. Heavy rains continued to lash coastal districts of Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada apart from Udupi.
