MUMBAI: In the wake of the Pune blasts and with a slew of festivals around the corner, the Government Railway Police (GRP) has been conducting a series of mock drills in the city to check the terror-preparedness of its force. On Wednesday, mock drills were conducted at Vasai, Thane and Kurla stations.

"GRP personnel were told that a phone call had been received about unclaimed baggage lying on a platform. The personnel were supposed to locate the bag, secure the area and involve the bomb detection and disposal squad to confirm its contents. The canine squad was also involved," a senior official said. Apart from the GRP, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), the fire brigade and the city police were also involved in the drill.

At Kurla station, the drill lasted from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm. As part of the drill at Vasai station, the GRP team found some clocks and household articles in the bag on a foot overbridge. The overbridge, between platforms 6 and 7, was cordoned off during the two hour-long operation. The Thane drill lasted from 4.35 pm to 4.50 pm.
