Title - Double decker knocks two AC coaches off Brindavan Express

The proposed air-conditioned double decker train (22625/26) between Chennai and Bangalore has got the nod from railway safety commissioner and service is expected to commence later this month.
    However, as a result, officials have decided to withdraw two AC chair car coaches from Brindavan Express (12639/40), sources in Southern Western Railway (SWR) revealed.
    Sources said that by withdrawing two coaches from Brindavan, officials hope to ensure sufficient occupancy in the double decker. Each AC chair car coach can accommodate up to 100 passengers while the capacity of a double decker is 150. The one-way fare from Chennai to Bangalore is expected to be Rs 440.
    SWR’s additional divisional railway manager Sandeep Mehra told BANGALORE MIRROR, “The safety commissioner has given green signal to the Chennai-Bangalore double decker train. We will begin operations before the end of this month.”
    SWR divisional railway manager Anil Kumar Agarwal said, “From April 1, two AC chair cars will be withdrawn from Brindavan Express, which will depart from Chennai as usual followed by the double decker.”
    Railway Board executive director P Guha said, “We have directed Chennai-based Southern Railway to start (double decker) operations at the earliest and also requested railway minister to inaugurate the service.”
