The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Delhi Technological University (DTU), formerly known as the Delhi College of Engineering (DCE), today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for jointly taking up projects in the fields of design development, research, indigenization of technology and so on.

The MoU was signed by DMRC’s Director (Electrical) Satish Kumar and DTU’s Vice Chancellor P B Sharma in the presence of DMRC’s Managing Director Mangu Singh and a host of other dignitaries.   Initially, the MoU has been signed with DTU’s Electrical and Electronics, Computer and Communication Engineering departments. However, the ambit of the understanding may be expanded further to other departments in the years to come, a press release from DMRC said.   As per the MoU, DMRC may request DTU to undertake consultancy projects related to design, analysis, development, forecasting, investigation, system integration, embedded systems and other software/hardware based solutions.   The two organizations also plan to take up joint research involving indigenization of technology, devising cost effective solutions for operations, planning and design of power networks, storage and standby supplies, voltage regulation, automation and so on, it said.   In the future, DMRC may also institute fellowships for all those Ph.D scholars who will work for the problems defined by DMRC. Joint efforts will also be made for the development of skilled technical manpower well versed in automation, design, development and know-how of technology.  The engineers and officers of DMRC having MTech/ME degrees will be able to take up such projects in addition to their assignments. DMRC may also provide internship to DTU students for their summer training.   DMRC and DTU will establish a Joint Interface Committee (JIC) to implement the MoU. The high level committee will consist of representatives from both the organizations, with matching expertise in Electrical and Electronics engineering.   "Delhi Metro has always laid great emphasis on the indigenization of technology and development of skilled manpower in the field of Metro Railway engineering. This MoU is in continuation of DMRC’s strategy for introducing affordable and sustainable technology to provide quality of service at par with the global best. DMRC has also tied up with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi to start a one year course on Metro technology, which covers all aspects of planning and construction of a Metro rail network," the release added.
