Title - CVC cracks whip on tainted babus

In a major crackdown against corrupt babus, vigilance watchdog the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) in June has advised penalty proceedings against 172 officials of various ministries and departments.After the CVC clearance, 14 officials of Department of Defence Production under Ministry of Defence now face major penalty, which, in certain cases range from pay reduction to compulsory retirement. Twelve State Bank of India officials, 11 BSNL officials and 10 Ministry of Railways officials too have been found guilty by the commission.The CVC has also advised ministries and departments concerned to issue sanction for prosecution against 10 officials, including two IAS officers of Ministry of Personnel, a Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax and a deputy general manager of Department of Telecommunications. The two IAS officers - Vinod Kumar of 1989 batch and Prasanta Kumar Pradhan of 2000 batch  - belong to Odisha cadre.The Chief Technical Examiners’ Organisation of the commission has also recovered `8 crore by submitting eight technical examination reports related to various construction projects.
