Notwithstanding the promises made by Union Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa about improving facilities at the Thalassery railway station, a few basic requisites at the station still remain unheeded by the authorities.A direct approach road from the new bus stand to the railway station has been a long-pending demand. An unreserved ticket counter on platform two will ease the difficulties of passengers reaching the station from the eastern side. With the open counter and the two reservation ticket counters on the main platform, the passengers have to hustle through the foot overbridge during rush hours to reach the other end.

Space constraints

Moreover, space constraints at the ticket counters on the main platform can be eased by shifting one counter to the second platform, according to railway station officials. The 300-metre open sewage canal running from the western end to the eastern side of the railway station has been raising health woes for quite a while. Municipal authorities during a recent visit to the Palakkad Railway Division had sought permission to lay slabs to cover the drain, which had not been granted yet.

The station does not have a retiring room for long-distance travellers. With institutions such as the Malabar Cancer Centre situated in the town, passengers alighting at odd hours often find themselves in difficulty.
