An angry mob beat up an on-duty ticket checker at Khar railway station after an unknown commuter raised a hue and cry outside the Station Master’s office yesterday. The mob also stopped a local train for three minutes. Four persons have been arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Bandra.

Sagar Sudhakar Jaitpal (27), Nilesh Ramakant Tandare (33) and Ganesh Ramesh Ganve (27) have been arrested, while a minor has been detained by the GRP for attacking TC Swapnil Shantaram Pawar and manhandling railway property.

Around 14.35 pm, Pawar is learnt to have asked the unknown commuter to produce his ticket. When the commuter was found to be travelling with an invalid pass, he was fined Rs.330 and taken to the Station Master’s cabin. However, according to the police, the commuter started screaming for help and a mob of around 25-30 people gathered at the office as a result, and broke a chair and table there before assaulting the ticket checker.

The accused have been booked under section 143 (member of unlawful assembly), 147 (punishment for rioting), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from duty), 353 (assault to deter public servant from duty) and 427 (mischief causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code and 174 (obstructing running of trains) of the Railways Act.
