After successful trial run of trains with captains on board over Bengaluru - Mangaluru route, Bengaluru Railway Division is planning to put train captains on all long distance trains from Tuesday onward. The idea of train captain is that it will act as the single point of contact for addressing grievances or providing amenities of passengers aboard.

At present in South Western Railway, Hubballi Railway Division and Mysuru Railway division have train captains on train number 16512 / 16514 Karwar / Kannur - Bengaluru express and on train number 16511 / 16513 Bengaluru - - Kannur / Karwar Express.

N R Sridharamurthy, senior divisional commercial manager and public relations officer of Bengaluru Division, said, “We launched this service three weeks ago on one long distance train in our division. We now plan to launch this service in our division on all long-distance trains from Tuesday evening. The senior-most travel ticketing examiner in each train will be appointed as the train captain.”

Currently, about 109 long distance trains run daily from the division. Once installed, all passengers will be notified with the phone number of train captain.
