Jaipur: Traffic problem at the Jaipur railway station has become a permanent fixture now. Many commuters who have to cross the roundabout in front of the station have to wait several minutes to pass the congested traffic amidst lines of minibuses and autorickshaws.

VK Mudgal, a resident of Kamal Apartments, complains about the pathetic situation and says it’s only because of this traffic jam that he usually gets late for office.

“I work in a company in Hasanpura and drive to work from my home during early morning but even at that hour there is a jam around the roundabout making me wait for about 10 minutes on an average or sometimes more,” said Mudgal expressing his frustration. One of the main reasons identified for this kind of jams is the stoppage of autos and minibuses near the circle.

A student, speaking to us on this issue, informed that morning is the worst as there is a jam almost every day on the route leading to her college. “I have class at 9 am and usually get late as I am stuck in the lane which is usually blocked by minibuses one after another. These vehicles do not leave space for other vehicles to pass,” said Astha Pareek, a student of a fashion designing college.

The transport department claimed that it has made few arrangements near the roundabout and deployed smaller buses in this area to ease out the situation. Transport department has now identified a few of these congested points which result in frequent jams.

Major among these vehicles are the autos which have the same entry and exit points.

The department is now planning to make separate entry and exit points for these autos by which it hopes it will reduce the jams.

“One of the major reasons for the frequent jams in the area is that autos are not properly parked and there is a chaotic scene. We are making arrangements to make a separate opening both for entry and exit of these autos which will ease out the traffic situation there,” informed Virendra Beniwal while speaking on this issue to us.

Notably, the department officials had also conducted a meeting in this regard on Wednesday in which officials from Railway Police were also present.

Meanwhile, traffic police has also claimed that it has started its efforts to lessen the chances of jams near the Jaipur junction and plan to remove the various encroachments around the area.

Traffic police had also marked parking slots for the minibuses on the Station Road at an initial stage so that minibuses do not clog up the road.

Removal of encroachments, which have come up on the roads, near the station. These various cart pullers that sell all kinds of merchandise can create nuisance. Since many passengers travel on the route, all these vendors gather along the route and slow down the station-bound traffic.

Proper parking space

Marked parking space to be in place for minibuses and slapping a fine if they stop anywhere else and disrupt the whole traffic. All the vehicles parked haphazardly on the road also slow down the traffic which finally gets choked at the congested roundabout near the station.

No to low-floor buses

More smaller JCTSL buses will ply at the route. The low-floor buses that run on this route create jam at the circle in front of Jaipur Railway Station. Though a few small buses have started, the operating low-floor buses used to clogged up the traffic at this very congested area.

Separate exit for autos

The transport department’s prescription is to make separate entry and exit point for autos as they are one of the main reasons for the jams near Jaipur junction. Soon enough,

people will see new parking arrangement for autorickshaws at the place.
