Title - ICF triumphs in St. Joseph’s tourney

Prize money of Rs.100000 for a ball badminton competition was unthinkable some years ago.Today it is a reality, reflecting the popularity and patronage enjoyed by the sport from institutions like St. Joseph’s College of Engineering.Headed by an enthusiast of the sport, Dr. Babu Manoharan, St. Joseph’s, conducted an all-India tournament featuring 17 teams that included the top rated outfits of the city like ICF, IOB, Southern Railway (which fielded two teams) and Indian Bank last week.

From other States
Teams from Andhra, Hyderabad and East Coast added to the glamour of the event.

Three-day tournament
Every encounter in the three-day tournament provided an absorbing fare. East Coast Railway, Hathway, Hyderabad, proved dominant as did the local outfits.

Cash award

Eventually, the title and the top prize-Re. 40,000 went to the local leader, Integral Coach Factory, which defeated Hathway in the final super league match.

Hathway collected Re. 30,000, while Southern Railway and IOB won Re. 20,000 and Re. 10,000 respectively.
