Title - CCTV cameras for every train and station

In order to make train journey safe in every train, Indian Railways will install CCTV systems in its entire train fleet of 11000  including premier and suburban services. To achieve this, Railway needs to procure about 12 Lakh CCTV cameras to cover all 8500 stations across the country. According to railways this is the first major step towards ensuring passenger's safety while on-board and off-board within station premises.

To cover every crucial area of a coach including entry gates and aisle, atleast 8 CCTV cameras per coach. At present about 50 trains and 395 stations are equipped with CCTV camera systems.

"All mail/express and premier trains, including Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto and local passenger services, will be equipped with the modern surveillance systems in the next two years," said a senior Railway Ministry official.
