Title - Sheikhpura administration to lodge FIR against rampaging students

BIHARSHARIF: The Sheikhpura district administration has decided to lodge an FIR against the students who created chaos at the examination center on Monday after they were expelled by the district magistrate, Sanjay Kumar Singh, on charges of using unfair means. Speaking to TOI on Tuesday the Sheikhpura DM told the girl students and their male supporters who were engaged in stone pelting on police personnel, damaging several vehicles, ransacking school premises and disturbing other examinees of the centre, would certainly be booked after identification of the rampaging students. He said the police will be asked to lodge an FIR against all those guilty of taking law in their hands. Regarding cancellation of the first paper of examination of Islamia High School, where the incident took place, he said he has sought a report from the authorities and by Wednesday, he will take a decision whether the examination of the said center be cancelled or not, but he said as per preliminary reports, the students who were expelled, entered into other rooms and tore papers of other students and greatly disturbed the students who were writing.

On Monday, the DM had expelled as many as 64 girls at Islamia School center after he found them using unfair means in the first sitting of the first day of Intermediate examination. Some of the expelled girls, who were from Sasbahna Government College under Ariari block of the district, went berserk and started pelting stones on police personnel deployed there and after minutes they were joined by their male sympathizers who damaged vehicles of the district administration and police, damaged furniture of the school and tore papers of several students.

The chaos in the school continued for nearly two hours and to control the rampaging mob, police had to fire several rounds in the air. They also tried to disturb rail traffic as they had put up boulders on the track and after three hours of commotion, tracks were cleared and traffic resumed.

Sheikhpura Town police station SHO R P Singh told over dozen police personnel were injured in stone pelting and to control them the police had no option but to open fire. He said that in absence of woman police personnel they could not use other means to control them. He said he was himself injured and fractured his thumb in the stone pelting incident and added that someone from the other side also fired in the air. However, nobody received any gunshot injury. Some students have also been injured in the incident.
