Title - Railway bribery case: One more accused arrested

NEW DELHI: The CBI today arrested one more accused in the Railway bribery scandal involving Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal's nephew and a board member, taking the total number of those apprehended to nine.
Mr Sunil Dagga was apprehended by a CBI team in the Capital, a CBI official said. The investigators are also on the look out for Mr Ajay Garg, an alleged middle-man.
Meanwhile, three persons, arrested for their alleged role in the bribery case, were remanded in CBI custody till 7 May by a Delhi court.
Mr Narain Rao Manjunath, Managing Director of G G Tronics India Pvt Ltd and two others - Samir Sandhir and Rahul Yadav -- were produced before Special CBI Judge Swarana Kanta Sharma who sent them to CBI custody after the agency said that their custodial interrogation was required to unearth the entire conspiracy. The court had yesterday remanded Mr Singla and three others, Mr Sandip Goyal, Mr Dharmendra Kumar and Mr Vivek Kumar, in CBI custody till 7 May.
The CBI has also arrested from Mumbai Mr Mahesh Kumar, the Member (Staff) on the Railway Board. The main accused in the case, he is yet to be brought to Delhi. The agency had said that it had received information that Mr Manjunath was in regular contact with Mr Kumar who was trying to get himself appointed to a more lucrative post in Railway Board as Member (Electrical), for which a deal of Rs 10 crore had allegedly been finalised.
Meanwhile, undeterred by the Opposition demand for the resignation of Mr Bansal and law minister Ashwani Kumar, who is under a cloud for vetting a CBI draft report meant to be submitted to the Supreme Court on its investigation into the coalgate scam, the government tonight ruled out any such move saying that “there is a probe going on. Let the result come. We will decide after that.”
Briefing reporters after a meeting of the Congress core group at the residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tiwari said: “No decision will be taken until investigations conclude. Let the investigation fructify… let’s not prejudge.” Rebutting the Opposition’s demand for Mr Bansal's and Mr Kumar’s resignation, he  said any decision on the issue will be taken only after investigations culminate. On the allegations of the government interfering in CBI's functioning, Mr Tiwari said: “The UPA govt has never interfered in any investigation.”
