Lucknow: Eight days after a stampede at Allahabad railway station, which killed 37 devotees, Uttar Pradesh government has ordered a judicial probe into the tragedy. A decision to this effect was taken late on Sunday night.The inquiry will be conducted by Allahabad High Court justice (retd) Onkareshwar Bhatt, said official sources. Its report will be submitted within two months, added the source.Soon after the tragedy, the Uttar Pradesh government had ordered an inquiry by the chairman of the state revenue council Jagan Mathews. Opposition parties — Bahujan Samaj Party, Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party — had demanded a judicial probe into the tragedy.Thirty seven devotees, including women and children, had been killed and many others were injured in the stampede at Allahabad railway station on ‘Mauni Amavasya’ on February 10. |
