Ludhiana:
In the absence of dustbins at Platform 1, passengers passing from here are forced to throw garbage on the railway track. The platform receives maximum number of trains daily, yet there is no dustbin installed here.Few months ago railway authorities removed vendors from platform 1 citing security reasons. The dustbins kept by the vendors have also been removed. The passengers have no place to throw the disposable glasses, plates and other packings material of eatables. People throw such things on track which adds to a shabby look of the station. It was observed that not only on tracks but empty tea cups and paper napkins can also be seen littered here and there on the platform itself."I am not in the habit of littering garbage. While waiting for my relatives, I bought a cup of tea from railway station. After finishing it I could found no place to throw the empty paper glass. I had to visit musafir khana to dump the used glass," said Ranveer Singh a city resident.

Ravish Mahajan, a passenger from Delhi, said: "Railway authorities displayed the boards on walls and poles at station which says, "Keep the railway station neat and clean", but how it is possible without proper arrangements?"

A safai sewak said, "I don't know why the authorities do not keep dustbins at platform 1. We have to work more to clean the platform and track. Platform 1 is an important platform."

Ravinder Sharma, Station Superintendent, said: "Platform 1 is very important from the security point of view. Most of the important trains come on this track. It was a decision of the higher authorities to remove vendors. We have removed vendors and dustbins due to security reasons as there were some incidents of bomb blasts by using dustbins in the country."
