Title - New orthopaedic block opened at railway hospital

A new orthopaedic block constructed at a cost of Rs.1.65 crore has been opened at the Golden Rock Railway Hospital here.The 1,000-square metre block is on the second floor of the Surgical Block at the divisional railway hospital.

Bed lift:Southern Railway General Manager Rakesh Misra opened the 57-bed block, which will house surgical and orthopaedic wards, besides inaugurating additional facilities including a bed lift.Installed at a cost of Rs. 25 lakh, the bed lift can carry 20 persons and has an auto rescue device as a special provision.The ground floor of the surgical block will house male medical ward, while female medical and children ward will function on the first floor.An auto haematology analyser has been procured at the hospital for analysis of haemoglobin, total leucocytes count, platelet count, RBC indices, and RBC count.An additional ICU ventilator has been made available at the hospital.

The equipment have been procured at a cost of Rs. 2.52 lakh and Rs. 2.99 lakh respectively.

The over 80-year-old railway hospital started in 1927 caters solely to the medical needs of serving and retired railway staff and their dependants. The 197-bed hospital has various specialities, including general medicine, dental, obstetrics and gynaecology, general surgery, and orthopaedic surgery.

Divisional Railway Manager Manjula Rangarajan, Chief Medical Director, Southern Railway S.Ramprakash, Chief Workshop Manager, Golden Rock Railway Workshop P. Mahesh and senior divisional railway officers were present.
