Title - CM unveils projects for rail overbridges, river bridges

Besides announcing 18 rail overbridges in 11 districts, at a cost of Rs. 948.30 crore, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Tuesday unveiled a Rs. 300-crore project for constructing 131 river bridges on government and panchayat union roads.Making a suo motu statement in the Assembly, she said 67 government roads, covering 215 km, would be laid at a cost of Rs. 100 crore. The fund for projects would come from NABARD, she said.She said a bypass from the Thanjavur district collector office to Manakarambai, via Perambalur-Manamadurai State highway, would be laid. The cost of the second phase of this project, which covers 14. 27 km, is Rs. 98 crore.The Chief Minister said two rail overbridges would come up in Chinnakavanam and Nandhiampakkam, in Tiruvallur district, two at Tiruvannamalai and Polur in Tiruvannamalai district, two at Vadukanthangal and Vellore in Vellore district, two at Manakkal and Kalkandarkottai in Tiruchi district, two at Mulluvadi Gate and Vazhapadi in Salem district, three at Peralam, Needamangalam and Singalancheri in Tiruvarur district, one each at Kancheepuram, Nagapattinam, Matappatu in Villupuram, Rasipalayam in Coimbatore and Valliyur in Tirunelveli district.

Ms. Jayalalithaa said the SIPCOT industrial complex at Bargur would be linked with the National Highway, by creation of Pochampalli-Kodamandapatti road, at a cost of Rs. 8.68 crore. Similarly, the industrial complex would be linked with the Pochampalli-Kodamandapatti road, at a cost of Rs. 3.33 crore.

“These roads will enable movement of goods from the industrial complex to other areas and bring materials for the industries,” she said.
