South Central Railway General Manager G.M. Asthana on Monday felt that the long-pending Kotipalli-Narspur railway line needed huge budget allocation in each budget as the total cost of the project was estimated at Rs.1075 crore.Speaking to mediapersons during inspection of railway stations between Anakapalli and Rajahmundry, Mr. Asthana responded to the representation submitted by the Konaseema Railway Sadhana Samiti (KRSS) members. He said that in last budget the government had sanctioned only Rs.2 crore with which they had started designing works of three railway bridges to be constructed between Kotipally and Narsapur. “More funds are needed to take up this line. Government has to allocate maximum funds in each budget in coming days,” the GM said. Mr. E.R. Subrahmanyam and representatives from all walks of life under the banner of KRSS submitted a memorandum to the GM.Mr. Asthana said that he had inspected level crossing, signalling system and track during his visit along with technical heads and commercial heads. He made it a point that he was receiving representation from public about provision of basic amenities at stations. The GM told that the South Central Railway was giving top priority to public amenities and sanitation in all stations. Responding to a question, he said that 22 express, and superfast trains were stopping in Rajahmundry railway station and the decision of stopping any more trains depended on Railway Board. |
