Posted by : railgenie on Mar 17, 2013 - 00:00:32 AM

Reserving a train ticket will become much easier for the passengers in Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram.

The service is coming closer to the passengers with the Southern Railway introducing the ‘Mushkil Aasaan’ mobile reservation vans in these places.

The vehicles with Passenger Reservation System (PRS) terminal will be parked at a particular place where there is a sizeable crowd.

The vans will be hired and the service of railway employees will be provided.

“The vans are being piloted in these places. The spots and timings will be announced earlier for the convenience of the passengers,” said Sarla Balagopal, Chief Commercial Manager, Southern Railway. The vans will be running on a pilot basis.

It is expected that the vans will be covering the suburbs in Chennai where PRS facilities are not available.

In Thiruvananthapuram, it will be covering the busy junctions and suburbs alike, according to sources. At each point, the vans will be stationed for certain hours as planned. It is expected to launch the service within three months.

In the 2009-10 Railway Budget then Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee introduced the mobile ticketing vans. The vans have already been functional at various places in India.
