Jaipur: The electrification of railway tracks on Delhi-Ahmedabad route, that passes through Jaipur, is on the cards and a proposal in this regard has been sent to the Union Cabinet for its approval, said Jaipur MP Mahesh Joshi on Thursday.

After the approval, the announcement regarding electrification work might be made in the Railway Budget.

Joshi said that he met Union Railway minister Pawan Bansal and reiterated the demand of electrification of this route and in principle, all the top railway officials have agreed on this and decision may soon be announced.

“I had been making efforts for this for more than one-and-a-half years and had met the earlier Railway minister too. Now everybody has agreed on this and the proposal has been sent to the Cabinet for approval,” said the Jaipur MP.

Notably, this route stretches over 1,100 km and more than 43 trains run via Jaipur between New Delhi and Ahmedabad daily.

With this improvement in the infrastructure, the travel time on this route will get reduced, thus benefitting the passengers. Besides, Jaipur will also gain a prominent position on the map of Railways. Jaipur forms the central point of business for traders between Ahmedabad and New Delhi and thousands of businessmen travel on this route on a regular basis.

If the announcement is made in the upcoming Railway Budget, the North Western Railways (NWR) will have to make changes in its infrastructure of the tracks. DRM Virendra Kumar said, “Presently, electrification work is underway on Alwar-Rewari route and changes are being made in the infrastructure of the tracks.”
