Title - Shaleel’s contribution to trade union movement hailed

Working president of the East Coast Railway Shramik Union (ECoRSU) D. Shaleel was felicitated on her return after attending the Asia Pacific Women’s Conference from May 11 to 13 and the 8{+t}{+h}International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) from May 14 to 17 in Hong Kong.General-secretary of ECoRSU Ch. Gandhi, who participated as chief guest at the function organised here on Thursday evening, said it was noteworthy that the ITF conference was held in the changed scenario of globalisation.Mr. Gandhi said that Ms. Shaleel had attained great heights in the trade union movement due to her humility and abiding by the directions of party leadership like an ordinary member since 1989.Ms. Shaleel, who is also Chairperson (women wing) of All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF), said the women’s conference had adopted a resolution seeking not less than 30 per cent reservation for women in all ITF affiliated organising committees to end sexual harassment of women. She said that AIRF general-secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra had strongly opposed the privatisation policies of the Government of India and non-filling of vacancies in the Railways at the ITF meet.

ECoRSU divisional coordinator B. Damodar Rao, deputy divisional coordinator P.J.J. Raju, vice-president Mahadev Appa Rao, and union leaders of all branches felicitated Ms. Shaleel.
