Title - Locals block track after train hits car

Guwahati (Dec 31): The incident of a car being hit by a train at Bahihata Chariali on Monday sparked a rail blockade on Monday.
According to reports, the 1546 Up Intercity Express train rammed into a Eon car at an unmanned level crossing at around 12.30 pm between Baihata Chariali and Sangsari. No one was injured as the driver of the Eon is reported to have disembarked from the vehicle before it was hit.
Locals blocked the track, disrupting movement of train for several hours demanding a manned level crossing. But NFR sources said that the spot where the mishap occured was not an unmanned level crossing but an unmanned unauthorized level crossing.
“The spot where the accident occurred is an unmanned unauthorised level crossing and accident was due to careless driving,” said the CPRO of NFR, S Hajong.
Meanwhile, assistant operating managers of Coaching and Goods including two additional deputy commissioners of Kamrup, reportedly rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. Commercial staff of Sangsari station also rushed to the spot and provided drinking water to the passengers of the train. The track was cleared at 450 pm.
Sources said senior Railway officers was scheduled to hold a meeting with Kamrup district administration on Monday evening at the Kamrup deputy commissioner’s office where the demand of converting the unmanned level crossing to manned one will be discussed. Kamrup deputy commissioner SK Roy said, “It will be discussed at the meet between the Railway officials and Kamrup district administration.”
