Having food on trains and railway stations will be a costly affair now, as the railway ministry has increased the prices by 50 percent with immediate effect.

Railway officials said the railway board had constituted a committee to study and suggest revision of tariff.  Tariff of all items is inclusive of service tax @ 8.66 percent.

250 ml packaged drinking water in sealed disposal bottle is to be made available, along with the meals to the passengers and the tariff cards can be obtained from the bearers on demand.

The prices remained unchanged for nearly a decade. The tariff was last revised on April 30, 2003.
