Title - First look: Thane station gets escalators!

escalators are being installed at the south-end of the 12 metre wide bridge. While the staircase on the other side is too wide, the escalators are too narrow to cater to the teeming crowd at Thane station.

“We expected bigger ones at the station given the density of the crowd, but these are small ones. Hope they will be able to cater to the heavy load of commuters,” Pankaj Dalvi, a commuter said.

With a footfall of more than 6 lakh passengers at the station, Thane has been ranked as the busiest suburban station. Railway officials at the station said that the 1.7-metre wide escalator is being installed at a cost of Rs 80 lakh per set and it will ferry about 100 commuters per minute.
