Shri Indra Ghosh, General Manager, East Coast Railway praised the Railway doctors for the first ever total knee replacement surgery at Railway Central Hospital, Mancheswar and also given a cash award to the doctors and paramedical staffs engaged in the surgery.A total knee replacement surgery has been performed successfully o­n a 58 year old Railway Employee at the Railway Central Hospital, Bhubaneswar, recently.Shri L. N. Mishra, Head Constable of RPF at Chandrasekharpur was admitted to the Railway Central Hospital with a complaint of severe pain in his left knee and was advised for a total knee replacement surgery.A team of orthopedic surgeons comprising of Dr. D. Mishra (Ortho Consultant), Dr. J. Jena, & Dr. Sk. Sirajuddin, Sr. Divisional Medical Officers of East Coast Railway examined the patient and made the surgery of the total knee replacement at Central Hospital successfully.Railway has saved more than rupees o­ne Lakh, which had to be spent at a cost of rupees, 2.5 lakhs in a private hospital. This is the beginning of the Special Implant Surgery, which will be taken up in more cases depending o­n the need of the railway employees.
