Title - Diesel Locomotive Workshop, Varanasi win golf championship

PATNA: Diesel Locomotive Workshop (DLW), Varanasi, lifted the T G Russell Cup of the 57th All India Inter Railway Golf Championship which concluded at Patna Golf Club here on Sunday. South Central Railway, Secunderabad, and South Western Railway, Hubli, emerged the first and second runners-up in the team championship.Mohd Nawab of ECR, Hajipur won the trophy in the licensed players category. Deepak Krishnan, former GM of Southern Railway, Chennai, and R K Shukla, former GM, DLW, Varanasi, bagged the best golfer award in the retired officers category. Amar Singh and S K Suri were adjudged the best golfers in the handicap category.In the best golfer category (0 handicap), Giriraj Singh from North Western Railway was declared the winner while Ajay Bharathi from South Central Railway was the runner-up. In the best card open category (0 handicap), S B Singh from DLW and Ramesh Kumar of North Central Railway were adjudged the winners. But in the best card open with handicap category, Rajeev Kumar of Railway Board and N S Patiyal from East Central Railway, Hajipur, were the winners.

In the best golfer senior category (0 handicap), Darshan Singh from RCF, Kapurthala, and R C Jha from Eastern Railway, Kolkata, bagged the winner and runner-up trophies, respectively. However, in the best golfer senior with handicap category, R S Virdi, GM, NFR, was declared the winner while S K Singla from South Western Railway was adjudged the runner-up.

Ajay Bharathi and Suresh Pillai of South Central Railway won the longest drive trophy.

In the present versus past railway officers category, ECR GM Madhuresh Kumar and his team won the trophy followed by R K Shukla and his team.

In the women's category, prizes were given to president, ECR women welfare organization, Sarita Kumar, Divya Sharma, Sunita Sharma, Anupma Sahu, Mamta Kumar, Indu Chandra, Manisha Prabhakar, Manju Kumar, Nisha Sharma, Madhulika and Mridula Srivastava for participation as well as display of their skills at the golf championship.

ECR GM gave away the prizes. Speaking on the occasion, he lauded the efforts of the ECR members for successfully organizing such a mega event.
