Title - 7 things you must know about Railways “Mission Retro Project”

A megaproject has been launched by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in which nearly 40,000 old coaches will be overhauled. This project is named as “Mission Retro Project” under which old coaches will made modern by adding latest amenities like LED lights, brand fittings, powdered venetian blinds, anti-graffiti paint and smoke alarm systems.

"Mission Retrofitment is an endeavour to provide better travel experience as the interiors of the coaches would be refurbished," the minister said. Here are 7 such things which you must know about this project –

1. By 2022 – 23 nearly 40,000 coaches will be ungraded.
2. 57 coaches have already been refurbished.
3. The approximate cost for this task is estimated at Rs. 30 lakh per coach.
4. Bio toilets, passenger address/information systems, braille signage, ergonomic design and an increased number of mobile and laptop charging points will form as a part of refurbishment.
5. There will no visible screws, toilets will be modular, safety will be enhanced through fire and smoke detection system and edges will rounded to make coaches injury free.
6. Better material will be used for example polycarbonate ABS, glass fibre etc.
7. Emphasis on improving passenger experience.
