The 61st All India Railways Table Tennis (Men & Women) Championship – 2013 concluded today (30/7/2013) at BNR Officers’ Club, S.E.Railway Headquarters, Garden Reach.

Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways graced this sporting occasion as Chief Guest and gave away prizes to the winners of this championship in presence of Shri G.C.Agarwal, General Manager, S.E.Railway and other distinguished guests.
TEAM EVENTS
In the Men’s Team Event, South Eastern Railway annexed the Championship Title defeating Central Railway 3-1 in the final. Eastern and South Western Railways became third and fourth respectively. S.E.Railway was represented by Anirban Nandi, Soumyajit Sarkar, Rajib Sarkar, Sumit Kundu and Suman Basak.

In the Women’s Team Event, North East Frontier Railway emerged as Champion while Central Railway became Runners Up. South Eastern and Metro Railway finished third and fourth respectively. North East Frontier Railway was represented by Takme Sarkar, Sukanya Bose, Tania Dutta, Nikita Ghosh and Antara Banerjee.

INDIVIDUAL EVENTS

In the Men’s Individual Event, Anirban Nandi of South Eastern Railway defeated E.Prabhakaran of Southern Railway 4-1 in the final.

In the Women’s Individual Final, Takme Sarkar of North East Frontier Railway defeated Anandita Chakraborty of South Eastern Railway 4-2.



Altogether 12 Zonal Railways participated in the Men’s Team Event and in the Women’s Team Event 6 Zonal Railways took part. As many as 100 sports persons from different Zonal Railways including Nationally and Internationally reputed players took part in the championship.

Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways while congratulating the winners of the championship said thatIndian Railways being a great organisation have always taken the lead in promoting sports. Hon’ble MOSR said that the sports persons of railways not only performs in railway championships but also in other National and International Meets. Sportspersons in India need a lot of encouragement, support, facilities and incentives, so that they can concentrate on their training, perform well and develop into International level sports persons who can compete with the best in the world, Hon’ble Minister added. Shri Chowdhury stated that Indian Railways now have 19 Padmashrees, 3 Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardees, 146 Arjuna Awardees, 6 Dronacharya Awardees and 2 Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskars. Hon’ble MOSR also witnessed two exhibition matches and congratulated the General Manager, South Eastern Railway, Shri G.C.Agarwal for organising the Championship successfully and in a sporting manner.

Earlier Shri G.C.Agarwal, General Manager, South Eastern Railway and Chief Patron, S.E.Railway Sports Association while welcoming the Hon’ble MOSR, Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that today is the concluding day of the 61st All India Railways Table Tennis Championship 2013 which has been in a disciplined manner. GM, S.E.Railway spoke about some of the outstanding performances of railway sportspersons. The sportspersons who have performed well in the championship will be selected to represent Indian Railway Team which would motivate them to perform even better in future.
