Lucknow : At least four people were killed and 12 injured when at least eleven bogies of the Howrah-Dehradun Doon Express derailed at Mehrawa in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday afternoon.Unofficial sources, however, put the toll at 5.Railway spokesperson Anil Saxena said the accident occured at around 1-13 pm involving the 13009 Doon Express.It occurred on the Lucknow division of Northern Railway and seven coaches were affected, said Saxena.Another railway official, however, said eleven coaches were affected and of those five bogies totally overturned.Saxena said among the capsized (those which tilted) bogies are S6, S7, S8 and Sleeper Class Extra Coach.The derailed coaches are S9 and two ordinary second class coaches, said Saxena. Two to three more coaches also derailed.CPRO of Northern Railway said relief trains from Varanasi and Lucknow were rushed to the spot.Railway officials confirmed that all people were rescued and no one was trapped inside the coaches.All the injured were taken to hospital, said Railway officials.Railway Minister Mukul Roy, who is leaving for the accident site in train, said a sabotage cannot be ruled out. He, however, ordered a high level probe into the accident.West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata said every assistance would be extended to the victims and their families. |
