The Vijayawada Division of South Central Railway registered remarkable progress in the first two months of the 2012-13 financial year compared with same period the previous year.Vijayawada Division had earned Rs.423 crore in the current year compared to the Rs.399 crore of the previous year. Coal, fertilizers, foodgrains and cement were the main commodities of transportation. The Division transported 2.447 million tonnes of coal which resulted in an increase of 39.5 per cent over the previous year.The Division also showed considerable increase in passenger and ticket checking earnings by registering 4.89 per cent and 23.6 per cent growth respectively. The Division earned Rs. 84.59 crore from the passenger traffic in the current year as against Rs. 80.65 crore in the previous year.The mango season also contributed for this increase in income with the division loading 14 mango rakes going to Adarshnagar and New Delhi. The Railways fetched Rs.2.69 crore from transporting mango.To meet the rising needs of extra passenger seats, the division attached 147 additional coaches to various trains.A new passenger reservation system was set up at Vuyyur Post Office for the convenience of the local passengers. |
