A local court on Monday granted bail to 10 DMRC officials and other accused in the 2009 Zamrudpur metro pillar collapse case.Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Sharma granted bail to 22 accused and directed them to furnish a personal and surety bond of `10,000 each.Meanwhile, DMRC official Vivek Prakash Srivastava and Gammon India official Amrik Singh were denied bail as both of them failed to appear before the court.While, Srivastava’s counsel told the court that he had not been served summons, Singh sought exemption as he was not in the city.The court fixed August 18 as the next date of hearing and asked Singh to appear before it. The court also issued fresh summons on Srivastava.Meanwhile, the city police submitted CDs containing documents related to the case.The chargesheet in the case was filed on July 5 against 24 persons, including 11 DMRC officials.The voluminous 6104-page chargesheet included names of DMRC former chief engineer (design) Rajan Kataria, present chief engineer (tenders) Subodh Kumar Gupta, director (design) Rajiv Ahujan of Arch Consultancy and Pradeep Gupta of Gammon India Ltd.Gammon India Ltd and Arch consultancy were charged for approving a faulty design.On July 12, 2009, an under-construction girder on the Central Secretariat-Badarpur metro line had collapsed, killing eight people and injuring 12 workers at the project site. |
