Title - 125th anniversary of Kozhikode Railway station to be celebrated - The New Indian Express

Panchayat and Social Welfare Minister M K Muneer, who represents Kozhikode South constituency, told Express that the 125th anniversary of the Kozhikode Railway Station would be celebrated in an  appropriate manner. An organising committee under the chief patronship of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy with central, state ministers, MPs, MLAs and people from different walks of life as members will be constituted for the celebrations.

“Kozhikode Railway Station is the pride of Malabar. The people of Malabar are emotionally attached to Kozhikode and nearby stations. Every effort will be taken to get the consent of the prime minister for the inauguration of the celebration. An exhibition depicting the evolution of the Indian Railways with special emphasis on Malabar will also be organised with the cooperation of the Railways,” Muneer said.

The Minister also said that efforts to upgrade the station as world class would continue with the support of all political parties and other stakeholders.

The New Indian Express on July 11 reported that the Kozhikode Railway Station would turn 125 years old in January 2013, but neither the Railway authorities nor the government had any plan to celebrate the landmark year.
