Title - Speed up Metro work at junctions, says Shettar

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has directed the civic agencies to work in tandem with the Namma Metro authorities to facilitate smooth flow of traffic at crucial junctions in the City.

Shettar, who went on City rounds on Monday to acquire a first hand knowledge of the civic problems, made it a point to visit the Nayandahalli junction along the Mysore Road.

Sources in the chief minister’s office said the visit followed media reports in the recent past, which highlighted the poor state of roads on the stretch on account of the ongoing infrastructure projects in the City.

Double flyover

While the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) is building a portion of Namma Metro East-West corridor here, the Bangalore  Development Authority (BDA) is executing the work on the double flyover work at this junction.

The BMRCL has completed construction of the corridor and station works are in progress. The BDA, on its part, has opened one wing of the flyover for traffic, but the crucial wing parallel to Mysore Road has not been completed.

Due to the movement of earth movers and other heavy vehicles, the road at the junction has been damaged badly, making it a nightmare for motorists.

Palike told to help

“The chief minister also wanted the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to chip in to hasten the work and restore roads,” said a source. Mayor D Venkatesh Murthy,  BMRCL Managing Director N Sivasailam and officials from the BDA and BBMP accompanied the chief minister.

Principal Secretary to chief minister, Pradeep Singh Kharola, who accompanied Shettar, told Deccan Herald that the chief minister also inspected the Namma Metro stretch from KR Market to RV Road, where the BMRCL launched tunneling work recently as part of the North-South corridor.

Sources in the Corporation said the chief minister also asked Namma Metro officials to speed up work on the project at major junctions and if required, deploy more men and machines.
