Title - Two killed as train rams into LMV at JSpur

In a tragic mishap, two persons were killed as the Paradip- Palasa passenger train rammed into a light motor vehicle [LMV] at Barunai label crossing on Cuttack- Paradip rail line on Friday afternoon, 20 km from here.

The deceased were identified as LMV driver Anil Mohanty [27] hailing from Nuagaon village under Biridi block and Siva Singh [57], a resident of Batimira village. The ill fated vehicle had been completely damaged.

Reports said that the LMV coming from Kamarpada towards Biridi was crossing the Barunai label crossing when it went non operational and halted on the rail line. During the time, the passenger train was coming from Cuttack and rammed into the stranded LMV on the track. The LMV driver died on the spot and the other sustained injuries and was immediately shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital for treatment. But he succumbed to his injuries on Friday evening, police informed.

Meanwhile, the railway police have registered a case after conducting the duo’s postmortem at Cuttack and seized the damaged LMV from the spot. Rs 10,000 was given to each deceased’s kin by the Biridi Tehsildar.

Hundreds of local residents gathered at the accident site and demanded appointing a guard at the label crossing. The police and local magistrate rushed to the spot and held discussion with the agitators.
