Title - Railways yet to sanction new trains, projects for state

Due to a lack of adequate rail connectivity, infrastructure and trains, the state government and many organisations have been requesting the Railway Board to sanction new trains and projects for years.  However, only a few have been sanctioned by the Railway Board till now. Some of the projects and trains demanded are as follows.

Projects

To develop infrastructure in the Bangalore City Railway station to facilitate the introduction of new trains by acquiring the Binny Mill land.

As more than 150 trains are running from Bangalore City, it is difficult to introduce more trains from there.  

Allocate funds for developing proposed world class stations at Baiyappanahalli and Mangalore.

Dakshina Karavali Rail Yathri Kshemabivriddhi Sanga has been campaigning for the Kankanday-Mangalore Central Track Doubling works, Nethravathi bridge to Mangalore Central Track doubling, more funds for the ongoing Kankanady-Panambur track doubling, Mysore-Hassan-Mangalore electrification work and additional platforms at Mangalore Central station.

As the state has less than 200 km of electrified tracks, the state government has been requesting the Railway board to take up the electrification works on most tracks.

Completion of Bangalore-Mysore doubling work to facilitate the introduction of more trains to the division.

The information has been sourced from the demands submitted to the authorities by the Dakshina Karavali Rail Yathri Kshemabivriddhi Sanga and other associations in the coastal region, Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee member Vinay Kumar and G Shasank Bhatt, an activist from Mysore.  Vinay Kumar has also been campaigning for the reintroduction of the Mangalore-Miraj Express and other trains that were stopped when gauge conversion works were undertaken.
