MANGALORE: Though largely disappointed with no mention of a separate railway division for Mangalore, Union railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal's Railway Budget has not caused severe heart burn either.West Coast Railway Passenger Association convener Anil Hegde welcomed the introduction Madgaon-Mangalore intercity express (Daily) via Udupi, Karwar; but was apprehensive regarding the Bangalore-Mangalore weekly saying that the route was not mentioned. As of now, there are two routes available for passengers one via Mysore, which is longer and the other via Arsikere. He also said that Mangalore-Kacheguda Express (weekly) via Gooty, Renigunta, Coimbatore was a disappointment as via Bangalore would have served the purpose of this region.Though he was happy that a Diesel Electric Multiple unit (DEMU) service will also be operated from Bhatkal-Thokur, he said ending operations at Thokur would serve nobody's purpose and wanted the DEMU to end at Mangalore Central.Hegde also they had demanded a train from Subrahmanya Road Station to Hubli via Madgoan and also reintroduction of Mahalaxmi express, but there was no mention of it in the budget which was again disappointing.GG Mohandas Prabhu, representative of the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the Palghat Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) was thoroughly disappointed with the budget. | ||
