Divisional Railway Manager of the South Central Railway’s Vijayawada railway division Pradeep Kumar on Thursday announced that the port railway station would be converted into a world class station soon by providing infrastructure and improving facilities. He inspected the Kakinada port and town railway stations besides interacting with the railway staff, commuters, and officials of the deepwater port.

Stating that his visit was aimed at getting the first hand information about the problems in the railway stations, Mr. Kumar said that there was a steady increase in the freight from the port station due to the activities in the deepwater port and the anchorage port as well. Observing that there were many problems to be addressed from the railway’s side, he said that the issues would be taken up in a phased manner.

“A clear picture will be emerged by January next. Plans are afoot to give a facelift to the goods shed near the port and make it useful to traders,” the Divisional Railway Manager said.
