Title - SER tops among zonal railways in carrying freight for Apr-Oct

South Eastern Railway has carried a record load of 5.42 million tonne more, about 8.19 per cent, than the Railway Board's laid down target for first seven months of this fiscal year between April-October, 2012. The achievement is the best amongst the Zonal Railways in India.

Only five Zonal Railways have loaded more than the laid down target out of which South Eastern Railway topped the list. The 2nd rank was taken by South Western Railway which registered an increase of 0.69 mt over the Railway Board's target. As far as total loading is concerned, while South Eastern Railway loaded 69.21 million tonne of freight between April and October, 2011-12, it has loaded 71.61 million tonne in the current financial year 2012-13 which was 2.41 million tonne more than last year, about 3.5 per cent increase. In the freight earnings too, South Eastern Railway has registered an increase of Rs 83.47 crores over last year between April to October, 2012.

Whereas the total freight earnings in the first seven months of 2011-12 has been Rs 4968.60 crores, the same has increased to Rs 5052.07 crores in 2012-13.
