Narrow escape for train passengers:-

Vijayawada:- Passengers of Chennai-Howrah (12840) Mail had a providential escape on Thursday when the alert drivers showed their presence of mind by stopping the train upon noticing the engine delinking from the bogies near Singhnagar bridge within a few minutes after it left the Vijayawada station in the morning.

The engine went ahead for about 2 km as it was running at 70 kmph leaving the bogies behind. Sensing that ‘something’ was amiss, the pilots checked and found that the engine was moving ahead without bogies. The drivers brought the engine to a sudden halt and alerted the authorities at the Vijayawada station. The separated bogies of the super-fast express too came to a halt after running for some distance.

Upon information, senior engineering and mechanical officials from Vijayawada station rushed to the spot and tried to attach the bogies to the engine. However, their efforts failed as the cup links jammed. After failing to move the train ahead even after struggling for two hours, the officials brought the train back to the Vijayawada station at around 8 am.

With the authorities failing to arranging an alternative engine even after two hours, the train was stranded for about four and a half hours, which left the passengers seething with fury. The superfast express finally left the Vijayawada station at around 10.30 am against the original departure time of 6.40 am.
