PUNE: To further ease traffic congestions at the Pune railway station, the Union ministry of railways has approved the proposal of Central Railway (CR) to allow a halt for the Pune-bound Inter City Express at the Shivajinagar station.
A Pune railway division official said that the train would have a two-minute stoppage at the Shivajinagar station beginning September 15. The train would reach the Shivajinagar station at 9.43 am and depart at 9.45 am. “The nod has been given on an experimental basis for six months. If the feedback from the commuters is good, the arrangement could be made on a permanent basis,” said a railway official.
Most of the office-goers and students travel by this train and Pune railway officials feel that by providing the stoppage at the Shivajinagar station, a sizeable number of daily passengers heading for areas like Khadki, Kothrud, Deccan Gymkhana, FC Road would get down at the station, which would help in easing congestions at the Pune station to some extent.
About a month ago CR started terminating two local trains and originating equal number of trains from Shivajinagar station to ease the congestion at the Pune station.
