Yamunanagar:
Close on the heels of two policemen facing the music for slapping a woman in Tarn Taran district of Punjab, an SHO of the Government Railway Police Force (GRPF) today publicly slapped at least 15 persons for trying to cross the Yamuna through a railway bridge. The action came after five persons were allegedly crushed to death under trains on this bridge in the last one week. However, instead of allegedly putting effective measures in place to thwart the locals from using the bridge, the SHO victimised them.SHO Brijpal was caught in camera slapping more than 15 persons who tried to cross the railway bridge.Local residents say that they used the bridge as a shortcut, but it was so long and narrow that if a train came, it was difficult to find a safe place on the bridge. The SHO later gave an interview to a news channel in which he claimed that “the population has increased so much that it has become impossible for the police to control it.”The SHO spared none, as both children and grown-up individuals faced his wrath for over an hour on the bridge.Superintendent of Police Y Puran Kumar, when contacted, said he would have the matter looked into.
