A portion of the outer wall of the Ayyappa Temple on Gubbi Totatappa Road near the City Railway Station came down on Tuesday morning. The temple authorities accused Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) of demolishing it despite a court injunction.About 900 sq m of land on which the temple, said to be about 60 years old, is located has been the subject of dispute ever since BMRCL commenced construction of underground tunnel for the north-south corridor.

Oral promise
While the temple authorities have been demanding a written communication from BMRCL about restoring the shrine after construction, BMRCL has made only an oral promise. The temple complex houses the idols of Ayyappa, Vishnu and Lakshminarasimha. A BMRCL spokesperson said the temple wall falling down had nothing to do with the tunnel construction but because of some cable restoration work undertaken by the Railways. He said BMRCL had promised temporary relocation of the idols and restoration of the temple after completion of its work.
