Come November and western railway has a treat in store for diet conscious passengers. Western Railway has decided to offer healthy and nutritious food for all those who need to follow a strict diet regime even on the move.
Accordingly, passengers would now be able to gorge on boiled vegetables, eggs, egg white omelet, juice, sugar free tea and coffee, low-spice diet comprising khichdi and steamed rice, dal soup, corn flakes, brown bread sandwiches and oats with milk.
However, as a pilot project, the scheme would be initially implemented only in Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronoto trains by the western railway. Also, efforts are made to make the nutritious food affordable.
The initiative is a result of the feedback received from the passengers. "Around 50% passengers travelling in A/C coaches demanded sugar-free, nutritious, low cal food. Taking the demand into consideration, we have decided to provide more healthy food. Currently it will be served only in Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains," said Sharatchandra Yaan, chief PRO of western railway.
Though the official date for the commencement of the service is yet to be finalised, sources said the service would start by third week of November.
Besides the healthy option, western railway has also decided to serve Jain food and Continental food on Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains. This too is a result of passenger feedback. "Jain food and continental food is also on our list. Once everything gets finalised, we will start providing Jain food and continental dishes too," Yaan added.
