Title - RCF, SCR in quarterfinals

Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala and South Central Railway (Secunderabad) filled up the quarterfinal league berths winning their respective pre-quarterfinal knock-out matches here at the SAI Eastern Centre on Friday.RCF Kapurthala drubbed the local Sports Authority of India team 5-1 while South-Central Railway stopped a late resurgence from Canara Bank, Bengaluru before winning it 4-3. The quarterfinal league phase — which divides the top eight teams in two groups — will be played in a round-robin format from Saturday.

The results (pre-quarterfinals): RCF, Kapurthala 5 (Gurpreet Singh, Sarwan Singh, Yadwin, Parveen, Karanpal Singh) bt SAI Eastern Centre 1 (Janma Majhi); South Central Railway 4 (Mayank James 2, Dharmendra, Janardhan Gupta) bt Canara Bank 3 (John Verghese 2, Kariappa).

Quarterfinal league groupings: Group A: Indian Oil, Hockey Bhopal, RCF Kapurthala, Punjab National Bank. Group B: Air India, Army XI, Indian Overseas Bank, South Central Railway.

Sporting held by Police

Mohammedan Sporting was held to a goalless draw by Police AC in a premier division encounter of the Calcutta Football League here at the Salt Lake Stadium on Friday.

Sporting got a few scoring opportunities but failed to find the mark against an overtly defensive Police team.

Mohammedan Sporting striker David Sunday suffered a severe head injury after colliding with an opposition defender in the 10th minute and had to be hospitalised for treatment. Team officials said the player is out of danger.
