Title - North East Railway sold scrap for Rs. 83 crore

North East Railway sold scrap for Rs. 83.4 crore and is calling it an achievement of sorts. A drive was initiated to make zone scrap free. According to NFR officials, it is one of the best achievements in recent years.

3 diesel shades at Malda Town, Siliguri and New Guwahati with 2 workshops at Dibrugarh and New Bongaigaon generated 21000 metric tonnes of engineering scrap including 96 coaches, 45 locomotives, 7900 metric tonnes of ferrous, 1100 metric tonnes of bridge girders and 902 metric tonnes of non-ferrous scrap.

Getting rid scrap will not only make zone free of waste materials; it will also ensure clean work place environment. The scrap was sold through e-auction in order to keep transparency.
